Marie A. Sconsoni, Senior Consultant, served for over forty-nine (49) years with the Boston Police Department, starting in an entry level civilian position and retiring as the UCR Coordinator in 2011. The experience of starting from the bottom provided a wealth of knowledge in how a major city police organization operates.
During the early 1980s, when Mrs. Sconsoni had supervised the Field Report Unit for over ten years, the Boston Police Command Staff saw a need to track work production, Detective Case development, subsequent Arrests, and Court Prosecution. It was at this stage that the Uniform Crime Report Unit was established under the Bureau of Investigative Services, and Ms. Sconsoni was named its first Coordinator. She created a cooperative and effective association between herself and the Detective Commanders and Detectives, engaging them in the administrative process necessary to reflect their investigations.
As all functions of a police department are based on the initial Police Report, it is essential that all the information is recorded and processed accurately, providing police personnel the tools to develop patterns, hot spots, known suspects, allocation of personnel, and final dispositions of cases. Mrs. Sconsoni has proven her commitment to excellence time and time again. Annual audits by the State and Federal UCR Programs have proven that her accuracy level was above par nationwide.
Mrs. Sconsoni was also responsible for the instruction of UCR procedures to new Patrol Officers, Detectives during In-Service and Officer Promotional Candidates at the Boston Police Academy for over twenty years.
Mrs. Sconsoni holds an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University.
